Tigers Rugby League Academy
In 2026 Good Counsel College will launch the Brisbane Tigers Rugby League Academy, the newest pathway program supporting young athletes here in Innisfail.
The Academy has been established through a three-year contract with the Brisbane Tigers, making Good Counsel College the first Far North Queensland partner school in the Tigers’ pathways network.
A Pathway With Purpose
Through this partnership, students will have access to structured development opportunities designed to support their ongoing growth as rugby league players. Under the MOU, the Brisbane Tigers commit to supporting the delivery of development sessions, coaching and education components for GCC students, including virtual platforms.
Professional Coaching and Player Development
Academy students will benefit from:
- Coaching delivered by accredited Tigers development staff
- Skill and game awareness development
- Performance preparation, training habits and wellbeing education
- Clear guidance on the steps required to progress through the Tigers pathways system
Access to Top-Level Facilities
The partnership provides GCC students with special access opportunities, including the use of Tigers professional facilities such as Langlands Park, gym spaces, and recovery resources during scheduled visits and upcoming Confraternity campaigns.
In 2026, our Confraternity squad will train from the Tigers’ home base, including use of dressing rooms, gymnasium and ice bath facilities during the Confraternity Cup.
A True Development Pathway
The Tigers Academy offers a genuine pathway into senior rugby league, aligning GCC students with a system that connects through Queensland Cup and into the new NRL franchise pathway.
Under the MOU, the College and club will collaborate on:
- Identifying and supporting talented players
- Providing pathways for representative and elite development
- Facilitating potential recruitment opportunities through the Tigers system
A Proud Partnership
This partnership represents a new chapter in rugby league at GCC and strengthens opportunities for students in Far North Queensland.
Good Counsel College looks forward to working alongside the Brisbane Tigers over the coming years to build a strong, supportive and aspirational rugby league culture for students from Years 7 to 12.
