Camps, Excursions and Retreats
Camps, excursions and retreats are considered an important part of the holistic education we offer here at Good Counsel, because of this, year level camps and retreat, along with subject excursions are compulsory for all students.
Excursions are an opportunity for students to experience learning in context by actively participating in the organised activity to extend their understanding of various topics that may not be possible in the classroom.
Camp opportunities usually centre on personal development as well as team building and leadership. Their focus is to bring groups of students together to work as a team identifying the strengths of the group and seeking to develop their weaknesses.
Retreats are a time for our students and do much to develop spirit, develop and cement relationships with each other and with God, provide for personal development and give opportunities for leadership and initiative.
The College encourages participation in such competitions as:
- The National English, Mathematics and Science competitions
- Debating and public speaking
- A wide variety of local, district, peninsula and state sporting competitions.
These are opportunities for students to test their performance in well-respected arenas and gain self-knowledge and confidence in non-threatening contexts.
